I am an artist and musician based in Southern, California. The art that I make is directly tied to what music I am recording at the time. Over the last several years I have written, recorded and released 2 EP’s; in the early phases of the recording process for my first record, I realized that one of the magical things that I used to love about buying music was the art work. It was a way to jointly study the music and what paintings, drawings, photographs, lyrics and liner notes accompanied the physical songs.

In the digital domain, my EPs and albums get released and ‘pushed out’ to a cold, vast sea of platforms, playlists, blogs, etc., typically, with one tiny picture (cover art) associated with the artist’s eight or 10 songs. So, I tried to recreate the past experience and release my music with 1 painting per song; that way, the listener could explore the cover art work – as well as the individual song pieces.

In between music recording projects, I continue to make art. They are usually made when I am going through the song writing process and home studio demo recording for new material for the next album. The four that I have selected for this submission fall into that wedge. In between. All are acrylic and ink pen on canvas or canvas board.

I’ve had the opportunity to dabble in the creation of film making, producing & directing music videos and album art for King Gordy, MC V1RUS, Ebbo Kraan, Vazytouille, Placenta Recordings & New Era Hippie. To Date, I’ve published ten books ranging from poetry, Graphic Novels to choose your own adventure. B. Lucy Stevens is an internationally recognized, self-taught artist living in Providence, Rhode Island. Lucy paints intuitively, her work is vibrant and expressionistic, daily life imagined in a brilliant cacophony of color and pattern. She is inspired by primitive and outsider art and her far-flung travels, from South America, to Indonesia to the South of France, where she lived for a year on a flower farm.

Lucy leads art workshops for children in underserved communities and for adults with developmental disabilities, and she is hugely inspired by their art as well. Her work has been featured in galleries and shows throughout the U.S. as well as in France and the U.K.

My paintings are everything I think and feel and witness, everything I find funny and sad and absurd. They are my offering of myself to the world.

I LIKE TO NOTICE THINGS: patterns of cracks on the street, colors of sprinkles scattered across the white icing on a doughnut, the texture of peeling bark. I try to use my brush to capture the tension between patterns, colors, and textures. If I am successful, those who view my work will feel the same joy I feel when creating it.

In rural Appalachia, where tradition reigns supreme, an emerging art and music scene has dared to challenge the outside notions of the region. Steeped in history, awash in natural beauty and with a culture rarely visible outside of the hills, this oft-forgotten region of America is carving out its place among the most culturally relevant to the 21st century. Among those seeking to change perspectives and bring new eyes to the rolling hills is Cory Graham. With no formal training, and only a passion to break down walls surrounding his community, Graham seeks to share views and moments not typically associated with rural America. Deeply political, often angry, and with a focus on progress at all costs, Cory Graham’s work shouts with the voices of forgotten Americans who demand to be heard.

I grew up in an Art home with a Photographer Father, an Elementary School Art Teacher Mother, and Artistic Sister and Brother. Art was always a huge part of my life so going to the Art school where my parents met was probably meant to be. I studied Illustration at Philadelphia College of Art (when it was called that) and then got side tracked in Advertising when I graduated.

Art was always a huge part of my life so going to the Art school where my parents met was probably meant to be. I studied Illustration at Philadelphia College of Art (when it was called that) and then got side tracked in Advertising when I graduated.

While I was in college and a few years after I exhibited my Soft-Sculpture in Galleries in Phila, New York, New Jersey, and Baltimore. Was published in the books “Outstanding American Illustrators” and “3-Dimensional Illustration” and magazines “Print Magazine” and “Baltimore Magazine”.

A weird sequence of events landed me in Tattooing for the past 16 years, with my own Tattoo Shop/Art Playground for last 7 of them.

I love Tattooing but the Sculptor in me couldn’t be denied and I started sculpting again with skulls – I love taking skulls and assembling them with manmade objects that are old and discarded, but still beautiful in their own way. It’s like putting together a puzzle of shapes and textures – and giving new life to the dead and discarded.

I’ve been told what to do with my talents most of my life, and it has definitely influenced my art – this is my own personal artistic voice – my sanity – my passion.

Considered an ‘outsider artist’, I express through sculpture, exploring my ideas using a variety of media.
Inspiration for my art, comes from dreams, myths, intuition and adventures.
My work is mainly figurative with root influences from what I experience—–the pain and pleasure of life.
I aim to create with passion and freedom, to tell a story through my work, of my life and the life of others.

Each sculpture is individual and an edition of one….

Featured Artist – Jay Thomas II

Born and raised in New York City, Jay’s early art creations were greatly influenced by comic book artists such as John Romita, Steve Ditko, and Jim Steranko. During the late 70’s and early 80’s, Jay tried unsuccessfully to join the artistic ranks of both Marvel and DC comics. By 1982, he had become discouraged with the comic book style art that he had been doing, and proceeded to drastically change his style of art. This was the year that he plunged headlong into Pen & Ink Pointillism. Over the next few years, Jay was able to display his art in shows all throughout NYC, Long Island, and Connecticut, and became a member of various art groups such as: The Huntington Township Art League, The Long Island Black Artist Association, and The Harlem StreetGallery. Jay has since abandoned the Pen & Ink Pointillism style (Too costly and time consuming) and now focuses on creating art utilizing Colored Pencils and Ink. He currently resides in Elkridge, MD. with his two daughters, Taja and Kassandria.
